While we take a break in August, keep an eye on this site, we’ll be adding lots of fun stuff about activities, competitions and more.
We’re a local camera club in West London, we’re on holiday until September 2024 and we’ll be updating this website during August.
We’re a small friendly club with members who have a wide variety of experience with photography and all are welcome to join our programme of talks, photowalks, studio nights and competitions.
‘Square Format’
Our next meeting, on Tuesday, September 3rd 2024 at Northfields Community Centre, will be a competition for images in a square format – you can be as creative as you like – the picture here of beach huts in Herne Bay uses a vintage filter for that sunburnt holiday feel.
We meet on Tuesdays at 8pm (except the second Tuesday of the month, usually) at Northfields Community Centre.
We invite guest speakers to show us their pictures, talk about what inspires them and how they take photographs
We meet at the Centre and use a couple of rooms as a photographic studio for an evening. Sometimes at the weekend or on a weekday we’ll take ourselves out for a photo-walk, exploring the local area, the countryside around West London or the city streets.
Competitions are a great way to learn and improve our photography together. We invite a guest judge to come and comment on the pictures and make suggestions for improvements.
Our guest speakers bring variety and different perspectives: each has been on their own photographic journey, they come to talk about their pictures, their techniques, inspirations and the search for their own style. Sometimes these are more technical, looking at the best way to use the camera to achieve an effect: we also think about the artistic and creative effects that we can achieve.
We have studio nights, we bring our cameras and work on creative ideas together. Sometimes it’s still life or abstract photography indoors to experiment with colour and light. Some studio nights are for portraits with guest models, friends and family come to help out. We learn how to improve the pictures we take and to get ideas for new ones. You’ll need to bring a camera for these, you’ll be surprised what you can do with a phone camera 😉
At our popular picture editing sessions we get to grips with post-processing. We tend to focus on Adobe products but not exclusively so. We learn how to improve our pictures, enhancing and trimming them for the best effects.
Competitions are an important part of what we do. We invite guest judges from other camera clubs to look at our pictures, comment on them and give points.
This is an engaging way to improve our photography: some competitions are on a Set Subject, there is a rubric, a brief that sets out the parameters, the scope of the competiton. Other competitions are Open and maybe on any subject.
And yes, points mean prizes! Trophies are awarded at the end of the year for the best entries.
We love an outing! We take ourselves off, out and about in London and its environs and also around the North West of the city, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Surrey: usually but not always at the weekend, sometimes in the evenings but always there and back in a day. These are a great opportunity to develop your photographic skills and very suitable for both beginners and experienced photographers. You can bring any camera, phone cameras can give superb results. If you want advice or help about getting the best results, experienced members will be happy to help.
